  • Highly accurate in presentation

The Batmobile is arguably the most famous vehicle to appear on television. When ABC decided to produce the adventures of Batman, the task of creating the Batmobile was left to the famous custom car builder, George Barris. George was given this great challenge, with only three weeks to produce an automobile that would forever seal his name in the history books.

To promote the show, the Batman cars toured the country, often making their appearances at county fairs and race meets. There is no accurate count on how many Batmobiles have been built; but this car is said to be the 6th produced and built by Jay Orhrberg Hollywood Cars, one of the premier builders of movie cars. This Batmobile is reported to have been used to tour the U.S. highlighting the dangers of alcohol and drugs to children.

The car has an interesting history as it was sold by a private collector in Los Angeles during the 1980s to a collector in Germany, and then was purchased again by a museum in 1991. This world traveler resided in the Cars of the Stars collection, which was considered to be the one of the finest collection of film and television cars in the world. It eventually made it way to another museum based in the Caribbean, then to private ownership.

This Batmobile was built on a 1959 Lincoln chassis with Lincoln V-8 engine, automatic transmission, plus a hand-built steel body that, when compared to the television car, is highly accurate in presentation details. It is finished in the classic colors of black with red highlight stripes, Batman emblems on the doors, and Cragar wheels. The open cockpit is wrapped with round windshields that also replicate the original. The upper bar features an accurate red light mock-up. The fins are unmistakable, as is the faux turbine exhaust and drag chutes. The interior is tailored with black leather seats with orange piping, black carpet, dash-mounted phone, custom-shaped steering wheel, console, gauges, and Batman emblems on the door panels.

Relive the golden age of television sci-fi crime fighting with a well-traveled Batmobile that provides much of the excitement and style of the original Barris interpretation.
